TALKING BOOKS!
Hello!
In today’s post I wanted to write about my thoughts on the reputation of authors. There are authors who put a lot of time and effort into the art of writing a full and concise book for the love of their ideas and creativity. The quality demonstrates the thought, time and effort given to the final product; the entertainment from within takes the reader to another world. People invest their time in books. Where some readers are swift digesters of stories, with the potential to read a book or two within a day (!), an author could be remembered or forgotten. Another reader could take months to read a book (just as respectfully) due to their available time – valuable time! An author’s reputation can be given simply based on the perception of a book. A story could live within someone’s mind for a moment, or a lifetime! This is the gift an author can potentially give from one, or many books! Given that every individual on Earth holds their own perspective, their feedback from a book should vary, even if this is slight. The intention of the author doesn’t always reflect the same as the perception of the reader.
I once published a book called “The Spiritual Prophecy,” which is strangely relevant to today’s situation. This was published back in 2012. I had this idea about humanity being distracted by entertainment systems and modern technologies as a general rule, whilst a strong, dark force was attempting to manipulate, intercept and consume humanity with a darker energy. There were some enlightened beings who attempted to salvage things, but the ending included mass destruction and small survival rates. The ending was intended to be very different to the typical “finale” of a book, but with an amazingly wonderful potential to begin life once again. There is a greater bulk of detail to the entire story, but my intention was to demonstrate a hopeful awakening from our distractions and to live with balance of our own nature. I can see that our minds are easily “programmed” with televisions/screens/the media; game consoles and movies (perhaps even books!), partly my reasons for writing the “Positive Programming” series. Being aware of our mind-set and our nature is balance. Imbalance can be too much time focussed upon a distraction, I.E. Television, or even our addictions of regular shopping and continual consumer attitudes. A greater population can become a huge business-world, filled with advertisements and entertainments.
The reason I mentioned the detail of my thoughts on the book, “The Spiritual Prophecy,” is due to the subject of “reputation.” One reader said that it certainly made them think about “distraction” as a general rule and how it is entirely true, whilst another reader said that they felt that the “rich people” in the book benefitted from the final situation of the story. This was interesting, since this was not my intention, but I could see the perception once it was said.
I find different perceptions very interesting, just the same as someone would perceive an abstract piece of art differently to another. Creative writing is also an art at the end of the day.
So, in my eyes I would think that an author’s reputation is at the mercy of the reader’s mind.
There are, of course other factors contributing to an author’s reputation. These could be part of a list such as: –
The quality of writing
The ability to portray a good story
The style of writing
The simple care of spelling and grammar
A person’s taste/perception
Perhaps even the length of the books!
What makes you search for the same author, for your next book?
