The Power of Your Imagination
How strong is your imagination? Our imagination can potentially create amazingly powerful things! Just look at all of the things we have created from a single thought… The light bulb; The telephone; The wheel; A pair of scissors! All extremely clever inventions from the power of thought and imagination. It is amazing what we can create if we literally “set our minds to it.”
Our imagination is extremely valuable and powerful, so I wish to link it to the subject of “how it affects our state of mind.”
We all respond to every event that occurs in our lives. Sometimes our response to an event is something that has been conditioned into our subconscious, which causes an automatic response. These can be based on our personal belief systems that have developed over time. If we have a very strong imagination, then we need to ensure that we always attempt to foresee the best possible outcome. Some people like to attempt to reset the response to a situation by believing that all events can begin with an emotionally-neutral response, that has no meaning. Because I personally have a strong imagination, I need to ensure that I use the right images in my mind, coupled with the right words. If something happens to you and you imagine the most frightening potential outcome, then fear and anxiety can set in! If you decide to imagine the better, or best potential outcomes, then you hold a calmer, more productive mind-set. At the end of the day – fear, worry or anxiety is such a waste of time and energy, as we are recycling the same negatively-imagined outcomes that in turn affect the body negatively too. Things such as an increase in blood pressure, tension and irrational behaviour are not healthy options. So why make matters worse? It is only making the situation worse for you! I also like to listen to how my response to something makes me feel. If I hold fear over a situation, then I go through potential, useful thoughts that are reassuring myself, telling myself that all is okay, or rectifiable. A bit like a comforting parent to a frightened child, imagining what would be said for a better sense of calm.
When I choose the right thoughts and images in my mind, then the feelings are resolved to be calm and comfortable once again. Anxiety can be caused by thinking (and over-thinking) with the frightening “what-if” thoughts and images. The opposite action would be to think about the action/s you can take to resolve or calm a circumstance, coupled with the calming or exciting “what if” thoughts and images. I personally add a dash of humour to every situation. There can be humour in every situation if you wish to seek it. It truly helps. Just think about “Patch Adams” as an example… In other words, “laughter is the best medicine!”
Imagination is a powerful tool if used to create the exciting thoughts, visions, inventions, manifestations – and is also a powerful tool to retain a strong, yet calm mind.
Remember to live in the present with immense gratitude and to only imagine the best outcome for everything!
